Friends, Yvonne DiSimone Karukas passed away peacefully last night. She was surrounded throughout the day by the incredible love of our family and friends, singing and with the music playing in our hearts. We will be forever grateful for that day.

Friends, fans, acquaintances, cancer support people; I have sad and urgent news about my wife Yvonne. After fighting hard against a brain stem tumor for 18 months, she has complications and severe pneumonia and we are hoping to come home for hospice today.
Many years ago I received a phone call from Jean Wong, the graphic artist who had designed the wonderful cover of my Home for the Holidays CD. This was before Facebook and social media; I hadn’t talked to her in years, and she said she was in hospice for cancer and briefly told me how much it meant to work with me on my project. I was caught off guard and did not really know what to say at the time. When she closed with “I love you”, I was stunned. She had an urgent need to express herself before her end of life. I tell this story because now cancer has hit home for us.
Unfortunately, Yvonne is alert but can’t talk or write at this time, but if she could, she would want to send her love to all, thank you for your support and laugh about some fun times on our travels in the music world or our kids’ school activities.
I’ve told Yvonne how grateful I am for the incredible life we have had together the last 31 years, and what a great mom she has been to Alex and Stevie. Everyone who knows her, loves her and knows I hit the jackpot when I got the nerve to go talk to her in the front row at the CSUN Pub after a set of “jazz-fusion”.
Friends, fans, acquaintances, if you feel like you want to reach out and offer some words of comfort to Yvonne, (not to me) a little story, song, shared memory or a message of love, we would greatly appreciate it. You can send a private message too. I’ll read them all to her through the tears so that she can be surrounded with “Internet love” and music. Your words will remain forever for our family to cherish.
I believe there is an undercurrent of love in all our relationships, whether we are just friends, co-workers, lovers or even just co-humans. Every song, every melody has an undercurrent of some kind of love or emotion: romantic......or funky love. We need to express it. We need to hear words and sounds of love, and now is the best time to show your love for someone who will really appreciate it.
In tragic times like this we all have to cope with what life gives us, and hopefully you’ll get some relief from the sadness by expressing yourself.
